Fallen Leaves

Don't want to talk about the years that have passed
about the love that was lost,
like some water in old trembling hands
Here I stand, like a mountain who tries to ignore
all the storms and winds that polish him

But still I must speak
My thoughts just won't let me rest
'till I've learned to forget the days that passed,
learned to survive the rain ...

I was a one-eyed boy who just came running down
towards the light he saw in your hands
I was a one-armed child, a little sad-faced clown
who tried to steal a smile from lips again
So still I must speak for dreams have led me back to you,
back to the war that we shared

Should we stand and fight forever, shall we never reach an end?
The child has learned to do it better, but has the boy become a man?

I was a stumbling fool who just came running down to the light,
the light he hoped you'd give to him, but
taking and receiving aren't the same
I was a blinded beast, how could I forget
about the pain inside your head
and your pale face that stares at me when I wake up at night?
Please forgive me all I've said and done,
forgive me my words and my songs,
for I know I was wrong and that's why
I don't want to talk ...

Fallen leaves cover my feet, the tree sends me her greetings
and like a leaf I should remember you, you said,
but how to stop the cold autumn winds?

And how about
your fingers through the canvas,
my colours on your hand,
did you wash them all away?
And how about
the sea around your ankles,
the salt on your lips,
did you wash it all away?
And how about
your inside getting outside,
did you close the door again,
did you try to forget?
And how about
the concrete wall,
did you smash it after all,
or did you forget it all?
How could you forget ...

(and how about the
pain inside,
did you,
did you forget the pain?
and how about
the sea, the
sea, did it wash
you all away?
and how about
your broken nails,
your bleeding hands,
did you try to forget?
and how about
the concrete wall,
did you smash it after all,
or did you forget it all?
How could you forget?)

(the pain inside,
did you,
you forget?

about the sea,
did it wash you all away
wash you all away?
and how about your
broken nails, your broken
nails, your bleeding hands
did you try to forget?
how about
the concrete wall,
did you smash it after all,
or did you forget it all?
How could you forget?)

How could you forget the smile that burned a hole in your world?
The tree ...

Fallen leaves cover my feet, the tree sends me her greetings
and like a leaf I should remember you, you said,
but how to stop the cold autumn winds?
